From the CD Set Me Free

With my head in my hands, I feel your arms around me.
When I don’t understand, I feel your arms around me.
When I’m broken inside and drowning in grief, I feel your arms around me.

When I shake to the core, I feel your arms around me.
When I can’t take no more, I feel your arms around me.
When fear creeps inside and a hostage I see, I feel your arms around me.

You lift me up, up, out of the darkness, and help me see all I can be.
You lift me up, up, to see other choices. In the midst of this change, you’re with me.

When my love doesn’t show, I feel your arms around me.
When I slight another Soul, I feel your arms around me.
When I can’t see myself in the eyes of all things, I feel your arms around me.

When I’m hard on myself, I feel your arms around me.
When I’m slow to ask for help, I feel your arms around me.
When words hurt my heart, ’cause I choose to believe, I feel your arms around me.

You show me how to love myself, and you show me how to be there
for all life, day and night, when Spirit calls
’cause the healing winds of change are always in the air.

When I can’t walk away, I feel your arms around me.
When I don’t know what to say, I feel your arms around me.
When the answers don’t come and I beg for relief, I feel your arms around me.

You lift me up, up, out of the darkness, and help me see all I can be.
You lift me up, up, to see other choices.
In the midst of this change…. with every growing pain…
in the gift of this change, you’re with me.
Oooo… I feel your love surround me.

Insider Notes

Someone asked me to play music at event themed, “The Gift of Change”. As I put my attention on it, I saw photo of a young girl being hugged by a loving caretaker, arms wrapped completely around. That inspired the words for this melody as I realized that I am constantly surrounded by love, supported in each moment. When I am able to remember and open my heart to that possibility, it becomes a reality. So, no matter what I go through, I have the ability to feel love’s embrace.

Sheila Tallmon wrote the beautiful piano part and played it on the grand piano in the Columbia City Theater for this recording. Savor the beautiful acoustics of the room as the sound reverberates in the space! I think you’ll notice.
