From the CD Set Me Free

Make me Thy own.
Hold me in Thy heart.
Use me as Thy will
for I am Yours.

Make me Thy own.
Hold me in Thy heart.
Use me as Thy will
for I am Yours.

Huuuuuuuuuuu….
I am love,
giving all my heart to You
and singing with joy
this sweet, sweet song of freedom.

Huuuuuuuuu……

Make me Thy own.
Hold me in Thy heart.
Use me as Thy will,
for I am Yours.

I am love,
giving all my heart to You
and singing with joy
this sweet, sweet song of freedom.

(repeat the above)

Make me Thy own.
Hold me in Thy heart.
Use me as Thy will,
for I am Yours.

From Set Me Free, released 2017.

Insider Notes

One morning on the bus heading to work, I closed my eyes to center myself. In a few moments, I inwardly heard a gentle, jovial request. “We would like to commission you to write a song, if you so choose.” Of course, my immediate response was, “Yes, I absolutely want to write a song.” When I arrived at work, I smiled at the sweet experience and let it go.

Days or weeks later, a few lyrics came, and still later a few more trickled in. Eventually, a melody also surfaced. The depth of feeling in this piece felt like a personal prayer or a mantra, and I began working with it quietly within myself.

This song transpired over maybe three month. A couple of months later, someone asked me to play music as a spiritual seminar. In contemplation, I asked inwardly which songs might be best for those in attendance. When I heard the title of this song, “Thy Own”, I thought, “But that is my personal prayer.”

Then, in the same gentle, jovial voice I inwardly heard, “You said that you would write a song.” I felt a broad smile with the words and I understood. I had to chuckle at myself. =] When the laughter stopped, I thought, “Wow! This song feels very personal and I might feel a little vulnerable sharing it.” But inwardly I was reassured that it is meant to be shared.

So, while there are few lyrics to this song, it feels very deep and clear. Maybe by sharing the depth of my heart, others will feel inspired to share the beauty of theirs. =]
