Teach me how to love. Give me the strength to open this window. Teach me how to love, to let the light shine in to every dark corner. Teach me how to love. A faint flicker burns in the far end of this room. The darkness yearns to be awakened from the night. Cold chambers sleep, and wait for a gentle breeze, the tender kiss of morning and daylight. Oh, teach me how to love. Sunlight streams through revealing the hues of the rainbow, on a painted canvas come true, from heartfelt emotion. Hope comes alive as melodies dance on a ceiling. Imagination arrives to add detail and meaning. Oh, teach me how to love. Oh teach me, please, how to love. The room now ablaze, consumed by firelight, while hungry flames shoot out across an evening sky. New sparks take hold, each twinkle a song of rejoicing. And so goes the flow, past this pane in a silent voice. Oh, teach me how to love. I said teach me, please, how to love. Oh, teach me how to love. Oh teach me, please, how to love.
From Closer To Home, released 2003. Credits from the recording: Janie Worm – guitar, vocals and chimes Amorah Ross – singing bowls Gary Mula – lead guitar

Insider Notes

When recording this song, we wanted to add something unique. As it turned out, Gary had recently recorded Amorah Ross playing her beautiful singing bowls. This felt like the perfect marriage of instruments for this rendition of “Teach Me How To Love”. With her permission we included them in the mix. It offers a dreamy sound, along with Gary’s soothing lead guitar. Enjoy!

From the CD Higher Ground
I’m climbing aboard going where I wanna be. My bow’s pointed North as I drift out to sea. Jib and tack, got the sun at my back as I’m moving ahead. Wind in my face, salt water taste, and I know I’m being led.. cause I’m… Getting a little, getting a little closer. Getting a little, getting further along. I’m getting a little, getting a little closer to home. The ocean’s in my veins. It courses through me. The drumming of my heart is the rhythm of the sea. Up and back, am I still on track? The waves lure me on. I trim my sails as dolphins and whales silhouette in the golden sun, and I’m …. Getting a little, getting a little closer. Getting a little, getting further along. I’m getting a little, getting a little closer to home. The sun will rise and set. I haven’t seen the shoreline yet, but I’m …. Getting a little, getting a little closer. Getting a little, getting further along. I’m getting a little, getting a little closer to home. The evening brings a calm. The stars talk to me. A celestial song plays on as I listen to the sea. Back and forth, am I still headed north? I ask the compass of my heart. Through tearful eyes, color fills the sky as the Northern Lights pierce the dark. Getting a little, getting a little closer. Getting a little, getting further along. I’m getting a little, getting a little closer to home.
