From the CD Higher Ground

It’s more than walking on water.
It’s more than water into wine.
It’s more than parting seas and distant thunder.
If you looking for a sign, it’s as near to you as anything dear to you.

It’s the light in a baby’s eyes.
It’s a dog that carefully leads the blind.
It’s a flower that grows from a tiny seed.
It’s an answer in the book you read.

It’s the tender touch of a lover’s hand.
It’s the heart that learns to love again.
It’s a bird that sings its song for you.
It’s a guiding hand that sees you through.

It’s more than walking on water.
It’s more than water into wine.
It’s more than parting seas and distant thunder.
If you looking for a sign, it’s as near to you as anything dear to you.

It’s the grace of grandparents as they age.
It’s a sunset on a long, hard day.
It’s a lullaby that soothes the soul.
It’s the words of truth in stories told.

It’s the sound of wild geese over head.
It’s a warmth that’s felt with no words said.
It’s a friend who wipes the tears away.
It’s a that somehow shows the way.

It’s more than walking on water.
It’s more than water into wine.
It’s more than parting seas and distant thunder.
Oh, it’s more than walking on water.
It’s more than water into wine.
It’s more than parting seas and distant thunder.
If you looking for a sign, it’s as near to you as anything dear to you.
Just open your heart and receive.

Insider Notes

When I wrote this song I was given the title to work with as a theme. As I contemplated the idea of “looking for a sign”, I paid attention to my outer and inner life for insights. I thought that something profound might happen, but soon came to notice the smallest details of my day deeply touching my heart, like seeing the love bond between a man and his seeing-eye dog enter the bus on my way to work. It became apparent that I had only to look around me and accept the love and guidance as near as my heartbeat.
