Shine! Shine! Shine! Shine! Shine!

Anyone can relate to this peppy tune which speaks about love and kindness. When we step into those qualities of the heart, we shine.

A few years ago, a friend asked if I would sing a song at her wedding. Her one request was that it be something upbeat, because she was afraid that she might cry. If it were a slow song, she thought she would get emotional for sure!

So, I held this request close and asked for inner guidance. I was open to playing a song that I had already written, since most of my songs are about love. But after a bit of time, a new tune began to bubble up. Sometimes the melody arrives first, sometimes the lyrics… and sometimes they are simultaneous.

When all was said and done, a bouncing baby song was born! She loved it! Then, after playing it at her wedding, she asked if I would send her a good quality recording.

With that request, of course, I contacted my friend, Gary. He had an afternoon available so we laid down some tracks. It was loads of fun and the song came out with so much exuberance that it made me happy.

Now three years later, after going into the studio to record the rest of the CD, we felt that “Shine” wanted to grow a little more… get all dressed up and join the party. We added a Jerry Lee Lewis style piano, and church bells for another touch of humor. Every time I hear this song I feel like dancing… whether I’m walking down an aisle… am on my way to catch the bus… or whatever I happen to doing.

The chorus of this song says, “My love is yours, and yours is mine. Together we shine, shine, shine, shine shine.” Shine on, my friends!

Cheers!

PS – Yesterday I saw that Gary posted a short piece about the CD on the blog at his website. Check it out! Thanks, Gary!

*The Delicious Morsel series were posts shared with those who supported the Set Me Free CD recording project by pre-ordering music, requesting custom songs, and making donations towards my fundraising campaign on Indigogo. I am so appreciative of this group of stellar beings.

Insider Notes

There’s another version of this song titled, “HU Shine”. The lyrics were slightly changed and Sheila Tallmon created a choreographed dance for a group of people. It was performed in Minneapolis, MN on Friday, October 20th at the convention center. I’m pretty sure fun was had by all!
