Watch the Unfolding
When asking the universe if I could be of service by writing music, this song was given. I trust that those intended to hear it will get what they need. I’m continually humbled and grateful.
Delicious Morsel #11
Cherokee Wisdom
March 2, 2017
About 10-12 years ago I inwardly asked if there was a song I could write that might somehow help my ancestral line take another step towards resolving and healing the past. Knowing that most issues peel away in layers like an onion, my intention was to offer whatever I could to the process.
The heartfelt song, “Cherokee Wisdom” came in short order. As I transcribed and recorded, there were lines that felt to me like a release of tears, possibly ages of grief. When melodies are manifesting, however, I do my best to suspend opinions and judgments, and watch the unfolding. In the end there’s some of what transpires that I consciously grasp, and much more that is beyond words, which is fine with me.
When it came time to select music for this CD, to be honest, I was not sure if I would include this song. But very clearly when checking in I heard, “You made an agreement.” That I did. I made a request and it was clearly answered.
Even still, in the studio, I felt the song was a little long. Maybe we needed to shorten it, speed it up, etc. But the more we tried to alter it, the more things went awry. Finally, we surrendered whole-heartedly to recording this song as it was given. We did add layers of voices, thoughtful nature sounds and authentic instruments. Marti Travers plays a beautiful Native American flute throughout the piece. It almost feels epic when I feel into the story this song tells.
Now that the final mixing and mastering is done, Gary and I both agree that this song has an unseen magic in it, an element beyond either of us. Even though it runs about 5 minutes long, I trust that it is exactly what is needed for whoever is intended to hear it. I’m grateful for the opportunity to accept and pass on this gift.
On another note, I’m happy to say that the CD duplication began this week. Woohoo! If all goes as planned, the order will arrive mid-March. At that time, I will be able to mail signed discs and offer digital downloads to those who requested them. I am sooo… excited!
Please stay tuned also for the CD Release Party. Once I have the details, I’ll pass them on to you.
Thank you all for taking this journey with me, one step at a time, through the changing landscape. It has been an amazing experience and one that I will always hold dear.
With appreciation….

*The Delicious Morsel series were posts shared with those who supported the Set Me Free CD recording project by pre-ordering music, requesting custom songs, and making donations towards my fundraising campaign on Indigogo. I am so appreciative of this stellar group of beings.
Insider Notes
I absolutely LOVE the little miracles that happen every time I am in the studio recording! In this song, we included some sounds from nature, and there’s a place where the flute and a screech owl perfectly mimic each other. Each time I listen I try to remember which came first in the recording, but in the end it’s all good. This is another symbol to me that they were in sync. I’m grateful for everyday miracles!
